Knit One, Stitch Too News
One of our charity projects is knitting baby blankets or hat/bootie/sweater sets for The Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS). Every baby born in a Marine or Navy family is given a junior sea bag of items and the Society is proud of the fact that they always include hand knitted items. Blankets need to be crib size (36" by 36") and machine washable. Bring them to the store, and we will ship them and put your name into a drawing for a store gift certificate in December. You will also receive a very nice pin from the NMCRS for your participation. You would be stunned to discover how little these men and women are paid to defend our freedom. This is one way we can express our thanks for the job they do. Our second charity project involves Knitting or Stitching for a Cure to support breast cancer research. For a $10 donation, knitters can select from a host of pink shaded yarns and knit a very long row on our Oddball Shawl. Ten dollars buys a square for stitchers to personalize on a canvas. To date stitchers are ahead of knitters. Once the scarf and canvas are completed, they will be auctioned to raise additional funds for cancer research. |
