Class Information

Learn to Knit / Crochet

If you’ve never picked up needles or a hook (of if your skills are very rusty), you can take a one hour Learn to Knit or Crochet Class.  This private class can be scheduled any time the store is open with a few days notice, and will cover the basics you need to work simple projects or join one of our other classes.  The $50.00 (plus tax) class fee covers instruction, yarn, book, needles or hook, and supplies.

On-Going Classes

We offer on-going regular classes in knitting, crochet, and needlepoint by the semester.  These classes meet at the same time each week (either Tuesday or Wednesday from 7 – 9 pm, or Friday or Saturday from 10 am – 12 noon).  Each student works on an individual project of their choice.  Classes are small so everyone has plenty of individual help and students are welcome to come in any time for additional help.  Class materials (except scissors and needles) MUST be purchased at Knit One, Stitch Too.  The fee is $200 for the semester starting January 1, and $280 for the semester starting June 1.  When there is room, students may sign up for one month for $65, or a single class for $20.  Please call ahead to find out if there is space.

Workshops

We also hold workshops and project classes designed to teach specific items, like knitting socks, or concepts, and projects like hand felting, or dying yarn.  These are announced with flyers as they’re scheduled.  The Moonlight Madness Schedule is under the Events page.  You’ll get Knit One, Stitch Too University credit for all the classes you take.  The 2010 – 2011 Graduation Party and Sale will be June 5 and is limited to current students.  Mark your calendar – this is always our best sale!

SPRING 2011 WORKSHOPS

Please make reservations for workshops at least 3 days before the workshop because the class will be cancelled if the minimum is not met.

Crocheted Hat is a basic hat trimmed with a ruffle and a spectacular rose.  Over three weeks students will learn to read and follow crochet patterns including increases and decreases.  The cost is $65 and includes the pattern.  Yarn must be purchased from Knit One, Stitch Too.

Tatting

This old lace making art is new again!  It’s easy & can be learned quickly because we’re tatting with a needle rather than a shuttle.  Bookmarks and small ornaments are lovely and fast and make wonderful gifts.  You can add an edging to a special hankie or collar, or embellish a mat for a picture.  Class is four hours with a lunch break and will teach all the skills you need to make a variety of lovely items.  The cost is $45, and includes the needle and thread.

Needle Tatting Basics class are on February 23 from 6 – 8 pm.  Needle tatting is easy and makes wonderful lace pieces, edgings, and jewelry.  The $30 class fee includes instruction, tatting needle and thread.  We’ll have an advanced class next month.

Tunisian Crochet is a quick and easy way to make interesting fabric for scarves, afghans, and clothes.  We’re teaching the basics in two different  two hour classes – one for crocheters and one for non-crocheters.  The cost is $25 and students must provide the hook and yarn purchased from Knit One, Stitch Too.

Basic Tunisian Crochet is a quick and easy way to make an interesting fabric.  The $60 class fee includes the hook.  Yarn must be purchased in the store.  We’ll offer another class next month on  Tunisian Entrelac.

Kumihimo Braiding is an old technique that’s a  quick , fun, and easy way to make modern jewelry, bag handles, accessories and much more.  The class is two weeks, includes all supplies and costs $60.  We have scheduled classes on Kumihimo Braiding on February 16 and 23 from 6 – 8 pm or February 19 and 26 from 1 – 3 pm.  This two week class teaches the basics of braiding to make jewelry, bag handles, accessories and much more.  It’s fun and easy, and a great way to use bits and pieces of left over yarn.  The $60 class fee includes all supplies.

SUPER SOCK CLASSES

We’re meeting from 2:00 to 4:00 every Saturday and 10:00 to noon every Wednesday to offer you help and inspiration as you make your super socks.  You can join us every week or just when you’d like help.  There is no charge for the class, but you must buy your book and sock yarn here.

We’re using Queen Kahuna’s Crazy Toes & Heels Socks.  It is the best sock book we’re ever seen.  The directions and pictures are fabulous and detailed enough that you will understand every step on your way to perfectly fitting socks.  The book is 100 pages with a protected soft cover and spiral binding so it stays flat while you’re knitting.  The cost is $30, and we’ve all picked up good ideas from it that apply to our other knitting, too.

Queen Kahuna walks you through toe up socks on one or two circular needles that are tailored to your individual feet.  She includes directions for double points in you prefer, and cuff down socks, as well.  The results are wonderful.  We’re doing both socks at once on one long circular needle so we can avoid the dreaded “second sock syndrome.”

You can make your socks with any yarn from worsted weight for boot socks down to the more usual fingering weight. We have great new sock yarns from several different companies, including some with no wool and others with interesting fibers like soy silk, bamboo, chitin, and cashmere.  There are even some that are knitted, then hand painted, and you unravel them as you knit – no ball for the cat to chase!  They are a surprise and fun.

You can start when you like, but space is limited so call or come in soon to reserve your place.

SIMPLY SCRUMBLING

We’re having drop in Simply Scrumbling class during February and March on Wednesday evenings from 6 – 8 pm or 7 – 9 pm.  The $65 class fee includes the kit and 4 classes during the 2 months – you choose which weeks you want to attend.  There will be no class on March 9.  The kit will make a standard size scarf or a small bag.  Scrumbling is fun, easy, and uses up bits and pieces of yarn you probably already have.  Being freeform, it has no right or wrong – you learn the technique and do what you like.

Scrumbling is the art of making beautiful and interesting items using freeform knitting and/or crocheting.  Scarves and neck warmers, necklaces, bags, and totes are easily made with scrumbling, but you can make anything you like.  Scrumbled vests are particularly nice.  You don’t need to know many stitches or techniques, be able to follow intricate patterns, or have much experience knitting and/or crocheting - an open mind and a desire to have fun are more important.  And the best thing about scrumbling?  You can’t make a mistake!  If you like it, it’s good.  If it’s not what you intended, it’s a design element.  If you don’t like it, you do something else on top of it.  And there’s NO SEWING!

Just need help?

If you aren’t currently a student and you need help with a project you didn’t buy in the store, you’re welcome to bring it in outside class hours.  There’s never a charge for a few minutes of help.  If you need more than that, or if you’d like a private class, instruction is $8 for 15 minutes.  If you’re interested in other classes or classes at other times, please let us know.  We’ll do our best to arrange them.

Child Policy

While babes in arms are always welcome, please make arrangements for your other children during class hours.  Students need to be at least 16 to attend classes.  Younger children will enjoy our kid’s classes.

You're always welcome to drop by & knit or stitch.  The Open Knitting & Stitching on the schedule are popular times for knitters & stitchers to hang out.  There's no charge or instruction during these times
